As you might have heard, Bayern Munich’s top four goalkeeper are all hurt ahead of the team’s Champions League match against Atalanta.
The Bavarians hold a 6-1 advantage entering leg two, but will have to lean on either 16-year-old Leonard Prescott or 19-year-old Jannis Bärtl to man the position.
Because this is an unprecedented run of bad luck, let’s just assume that both kids eat some bad gas station sushi on the way to stadium and cannot play — is it really out of the realm of possibility at this point?
Which Bayern Munich field player do you think could man the position well enough to lead the team to a victory?
Kim Min-jae – The Granite Statue
- Nickname already: The Monster.
- Strikers might simply decide shooting isn’t worth the emotional damage.
- Special ability: Blocking shots using every possible body part.
Harry Kane – The Tactical Striker-Keeper
- Amazing positional awareness.
- Could probably read where the shot is going before the striker does.
- Downside: Instinctively tries to score from a goal kick.
Konrad Laimer – The Relentless Shot-Chaser
- Pure work rate.
- Would dive at literally every ball within 10 meters.
- Downside: Might press the opposing striker inside the penalty box.
Raphaël Guerreiro – The Playmaker Keeper
- Instead of hoofing it long, he’d ping a perfect 60-meter pass to start attacks.
- Basically a deep-lying playmaker… who happens to wear gloves.
- Downside: Might struggle moving laterally across the goal line to make saves.
Dayot Upamecano – The Human Brick Wall
- Already built like a goalpost.
- Could probably stop shots just by standing there and expanding his shoulders.
- Downside: Might accidentally tackle the striker and the ball into the net.
Joshua Kimmich – The Tactical Goalkeeper
- Would organize the defense like a chess grandmaster.
- Before every corner: “Everyone shift 0.3 meters to the left.”
- Downside: Might spend so long giving instructions that the shot goes in.
Leon Goretzka – The Gym-Built Shot Stopper
- Arms roughly the size of small tree trunks.
- Could punch crosses into the upper tier.
- Downside: Might flex after every save and forget to release the ball.
