Michael Olise is the man of the moment.
He is the star of the show and possibly the most sought-after footballer in the world right now. Florentino Perez and co. will try their best to get their hands on his signature, but Bayern Munich will not budge.
And that is because he is irreplaceable.
The French winger showed exactly why in France’s opener vs. Senegal, where he was the Man of the Match, being the creative force of the team, fashioning numerous opportunities and practically laying the ball for Mbappé
on a platter on countless occasions. It is a shame that France only managed to score 3 goals with Olise pulling the strings. At one point in the game, the attack was just him.
Such is the level of skill and footballing IQ that Olise possesses.
Thierry Henry is of the same opinion. In an interview with @FOXSoccer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the Arsenal and France legend waxed lyrical about a player he has praised on numerous occasions this season. When asked about a name he’s looking forward to this summer, Henry was quick to answer. “Michael Olise, simple. We can talk about what he did for Bayern Munich, winning the double, player of the season, assists, goals. He is a dream for a coach,” exclaimed Henry.
He then recollected his experiences as Olise’s coach in the 2024 Summer Olympics: “I had the opportunity to coach him – he doesn’t play the game, he thinks the game. That separates him from the others for me.”
BFW Analysis
It is common knowledge that Olise is a cerebral player, and his game-reading ability and footballing instincts are what set him apart from his peers. Olise is a pure jugador in every sense of the word.
In his World Cup debut, the ball was glued to his feet, and the way he released his teammates on overlapping runs was a work of art. He didn’t even look at the players… the ball he would ping towards them would land perfectly for them. It was just a poor night in the finishing department for the French, and Olise still managed to dish out two assists to supreme leader Kylian Mbappé.
It is only going to get better from here. It is scary hours for any team that will face France in the future if Olise continues like this. Coach Didier Deschamps needs to figure out his midfield setup to give Olise more freedom on the wings… you simply cannot have your most creative player dropping back to play as a deep-lying 6 at times. The team cannot solely rely on one player to do everything.
But he hasn’t let them down. And he just might step up and do everything.
