Former Barcelona star Jordi Alba has announced he’ll retire at the end of the MLS season and bring to a close a stellar career.
Alba enjoyed great success during his time at Barcelona and struck up a great relationship with Lionel Messi on and off the pitch. The two were reunited at Inter Miami and Messi has paid an emotional tribute to the left-back.
“Thanks to you, Jordi. I am going to miss you a lot. After many things together, it’s going to feel strange to look to my left and not see you there,”
he posted on social media.
“It’s crazy how many assists you’ve given me over all these years. Who is going to give me those passes from behind now?”
Former Barca stars Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, who are also now at Inter Miami have also sent messages.
“Brother, what to say. You’re a crack, to enjoy what’s left,” said Suárez.
Busquets added: “Congratulations, Jordi, on your incredible career. It’s been a gift and a pleasure to share so many moments together on and off the pitch. I wish you all the best and, as always, to keep sharing family moments together. We love you so much, family.”
