It’s been a tremendous stretch for the Kentucky Basketball program. The staff landed a commitment from Milan Momcilovic, retained Malachi Moreno, and head coach Mark Pope has landed his highest-ranked high schooler.
Ryan Hampton, a top-10 overall recruit in the class of 2027, pledged his commitment to the Wildcats on Sunday morning, shortly after he wrapped up his weekend visit. Hampton, the Daytona Beach native, had high praise for the UK coaching staff in a recent article with On3’s Joe Tipton.
“I chose Kentucky because of Coach Pope and Coach Mo Williams. They showed me a vision and a plan for me to reach my ultimate dreams and goals. They will challenge me to be the best I can be on and off the court,” Hampton told Rivals.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound small forward’s stock has really risen on the EYBL circuit over the past couple of months. Hampton, who plays for the Nightrydas, is averaging 21 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in just four outings with his new squad.
While Coach Pope made an impact, Hampton admitted it was new assistant coach and former NBA standout Mo Williams who really helped seal the deal.
“Let’s be honest, Coach Williams closed the deal. He’s been a friend of my dad for a long time, so my family has trust in him,” Hampton said.
Coach Williams has already made some big-time moves for this staff. Many players have raved about having the NBA great on the recruiting trail, and this will hopefully continue to help Kentucky contend for a top recruiting class next year.
