Toledo Mud Hens 4, Louisville Bats 1 (box)
Jack Flaherty’s rehab outing went well and the Hens pitching staff smothered the Bats all the way through Saturday’s second to last game of the season.
The veteran right-hander faces a very uncertain free agency under very uncertain circumstances this offseason, but presumably his Tigers tenure is coming to an end. Flaherty gave up two singles and no walks, while striking out three over 2.1 innings of work. Andre Granillo wrapped up the third, Brenan Hanifee handled the fourth, and the Hens were through
four without giving up a run.
In the bottom of the third, Trei Cruz led off with a double to left. Jace Jung flew out but moved Cruz to third. Max Anderson hammered a 109.8 mph double to left field to score Cruz. All three players are going well to end the season.
Jung smashed his 22nd home run to lead off the fifth. Later in the inning Max Anderson walked, stole second, and scored on a two-out James Outman double. 3-0 Hens. Outman walked, and scored after singles from Andrew Navigato and Justice Bigbie in the seventh.
Austin Gomber took over in the fifth and he gave up a run in the eighth but was otherwise solid. Tyler Mattison had a dicey top of the ninth but picked up his third save.
