The Washington Mystics win their season finale over the Chicago Sky on Thursday night, 101-93.
Washington came out in this game with a focus and energy that felt like they were prepared to send a message tonight. The Mystics got up in this one by as much as 25, and never trailed. Chicago chipped away at times, and was able to finally get the game within four points, after a 9-0 run, with a minute left in the game. Mystics were able to get a couple of buckets to expand their lead over the Sky and finish
off the game.
How did the Mystics do it? Let’s start with their aggressive play. Mystics attacked the basket relentlessly getting to the free throw line 32 times. Washington also dominated the board, 50 – 38.
Individually, the Mystics were led by Sonia Citron’s 21 points, on 8 of 9 shooting, and Kiki Iriafen and Michaela Onyenwere, who both contributed 16 points a piece.
Washington finishes the season with a franchise record 28 wins this season, and now will look to start the playoffs this weekend.
