As is custom, there were some speeches during Bayern Munich’s team dinner after taking down Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the Champions League.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen showered praise on the squad for their
heart, effort, and resilience.
“Wow, what a fight we saw on this wonderful night in Paris. It felt like a semifinal or final. It was a team effort. We had a Man of the Match – Manuel Neuer kept us in the game in the second half. Incredible what you still produce at your age,” Dreesen said during the post-match dinner (as captured by FCBayern.com). “I’d like to thank our fans who supported us in the stands tonight, with everything they have and full passion. They really didn’t have it easy because, due to the arbitrariness of the Paris police, first they weren’t allowed into the match, then were sent to a tollbooth, where there are no toilets, nothing to eat or drink.
“Luckily, we managed to organize with the fan clubs that we got second and third bus drivers so that the fans could just get home tonight. I’d also like to express my thanks for that.”
Bayern Munich deserves all of the adulation, but the focus now shifts to the weekend match against Union Berlin. Clearly, the team is looking to avoid a letdown against what should be a desperate group from Die Eisernen.
