Sunday the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 30-23 at Lumen Field to keep pace with the San Francisco 49ers, who sit alone atop the NFC West at 4-0.
And now comes Week 5 and a matchup against those undefeated 49ers, which means an opportunity for Seattle to take over first place in the division by knocking the Niners out of the top spot.
However, when the teams face off Sunday, the Seahawks will once again be without 2026 first round pick Jadarian Price, who is on injured reserve for
at least another three weeks. That brings the discussion to 2023 second round pick Zach Charbonnet and a potential return from injured reserve, but any hopes for that were shot down by head coach Mike Macdonald Monday.
Thus, barring the addition of a veteran free agent, such as Joe Mixon, it appears as though Seattle fans have another week of the former undrafted duo of Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani, with Velus Jones seeing situational spot snaps.
However, what could be even more important news on the injury front is the availability of All-Pro defensive lineman Leonard Williams. Williams suffered an ankle injury in the second half against Los Angeles and Macdonald was noncommital regarding Williams’ availability for the showdown against San Francisco.
Williams is a huge piece of the Seattle defense, and while Macdonald says he is optimistic, Macdonald is a dad, and “we will see” more often than not tends to be dad speak for “no.” Should Williams be unable to play against San Francisco it would be a big blow for a defense that has given up far more points than they would prefer the past couple of weeks to opponents of a far lower caliber than the 49ers offense the Seahawks defense will face in Week 5.
And now it’s on to the Wednesday injury report.
