JR Ritchie had a rough outing Wednesday, going 4.2 innings with 6 runs allowed, 2 homers, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. The strikeout number was at least respectable, but he continues to look like a fringe major league starter at best, despite having looked like a new pitcher over the last period in the minors since his last major league appearance. That’s a bummer for the Braves, who were perhaps hoping for a higher upside for anyone to start a playoff game after Chris Sale and Tyler Mahle. Right now
it feels a whole lot like “Grant Holmes for 2-3 innings and then pray the bullpen can cover the rest” and that doesn’t even address a fourth starter. Not a great spot for the playoff rotation.
