Manchester United are on the road this week, looking for a third away win in a row against third-place Aston Villa on Sunday. Here’s three things to keep track of on the search for three points.
Right flank
With no Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, the right flank will be the biggest question mark ahead of the game against Aston Villa. Matheus Cunha is most likely to take up the right side role. Patrick Dorgu has struggled to make a mark at left wing-back, but has shown some promise on this wing. Switching Diogo Dalot to the right looks like an obvious adjustment, but his performances on the left have improved marginally in recent weeks, so it’ll be interesting to see what Ruben Amorim does.
Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko will most likely start this game. Strikers need to get on the scoresheet for confidence, and the team will be counting on him in the coming games. After a nervy start to the season, it looked like he had settled into the side before the injury. He has many exciting attributes, but doesn’t have the sharpness that the best strikers possess. He’ll need to develop this quickly, and the next game will be a good test of his progress.
Midfield partner for Bruno Fernandes
Casemiro will not play this game, which is worrying since the side is far from ideal even with him there. What can’t be denied is that this United side’s results are better with him in the side. Manuel Ugarte has had multiple chances to impress, but has failed to make a real mark since joining the club last season. Kobbie Mainoo showed promise under Erik ten Hag, but his fit in a two-man midfield that lacks physicality and athleticism is an obvious concern. Amorim’s selection will give us some insight as to what he thinks of his midfield options.
