18-year NBA veteran Russell Westbrook is signing a one-year minimum contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania:
BREAKING: Nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook has agreed
on a deal to sign with the Sacramento Kings, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management tells ESPN. The 2017 league MVP enters his 18th NBA season.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic (subscription required), several Kings players were lobbying for the Kings to sign Westbrook, who played well at times last year for the Denver Nuggets. Superstar Nikola Jokic also reportedly lobbied for Westbrook’s inclusion on the Nuggets’ roster last year, according to Harrison Wind of DNVR:
“Nikola Jokic has actually been pushing behind the scenes to get Westbrook to Denver,” Wind said. “I’ve been told that Nikola Jokic wants Westbrook in Denver, he wants to play with him. It’s not the first time he has wanted to play with him.”
In the Nuggets’ seven-game second round 2025 playoff series against the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook shot under 35% from the field on 9 attempts and had more turnovers per game (2.6) than assists (2.4).
A one-time MVP and nine-time All-Star, Westbrook has career averages of 21.2 points, 8 dimes, and 7 boards.
