The woes of Alexander Nübel have been discussed plenty of times over the years. Initially brought in by Bayern Munich in 2020 as main goalkeeper Manuel Neuer looked like he was starting to decline, a resurgence by the 2020 Champions League winner meant Nübel was stuck to the bench in Munich for the 2020/21 season. He then went on an unprecedented loan journey, spending 5 years combined at AS Monaco and VfB Stuttgart. In the midst of these loan spells, Bayern’s sporting management granted Nübel a big
new contract until 2029, indicating a desire to eventually bring the former Schalke 04 player back as the eventual successor to Neuer.
That desire is no longer there.
With Jonas Urbig now the desired future #1 for Bayern, Nübel has no future in Munich and was very publicly put on the transfer list. The question now was who would match Nübel’s big salary. Stuttgart, despite qualifying for the Champions League, could not afford it. So who can?
According to Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Turkish giants Beşiktaş can:
Bayern and Beşiktaş have reached an agreement over the transfer of Alexander Nübel. Fee: €5m fixed plus €5m add-ons.
The transfer fee may seem small for an experienced goalkeeper with real Champions League experience who just made the World Cup squad for Germany, but offloading the 29-year-old’s salary will be first priority for the Bavarians. If the report is to be believed, the Bavarians have offloaded a lot of money from their wage bill and that is important.
