New York has gotten through their gauntlet run, and all things considered it went very well. They won three of their last four series, taking contests with the Astros, Blue Jays, and Red Sox while dropping one to the Tigers in-between. Now they have a relative stroll to the end of the regular season, seeing the Orioles twice alongside the Twins and White Sox, all teams at or near the bottom of their divisions. If there was a time to pull away from the competition, it’s now.
Of course, while the Yankees
have an easier path to wins for these final two weeks, it comes at the cost of being unable to control their own destiny in the AL East — with no meetings with Toronto left, they can only scoreboard watch and hope that they lose. Can the gap in the division be made up if the Yankees take advantage of their easy schedule? Will Aaron Judge cement his MVP case in these final games? Can the bullpen sort itself out in time for the postseason? If you have questions like this, or anything else on your mind, send ‘em in for a chance to be featured in our Yankees mailbag.
Answers will run on Friday afternoon. All questions received by the night of September 18th will be considered. You can leave your submissions in the comment section below or by e-mail to pinstripealleyblog [at] gmail [dot] com.
