Newcastle United returns to St James’ Park on Saturday to face newly promoted Hull City in the Premier League, looking to respond after Monday’s 4-1 defeat at Leeds United ended its five-game unbeaten start in all competitions.
Matthias Jaissle’s side enters the weekend 12th in the table with five points from four league matches and now faces a Hull team that has had an unbeaten start to the season in a rather surprising way.
Newcastle will again be without a lengthy list of players, including Anthony
Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Nico Gonzalez, Amar Dedic, Dan Burn, Ewen Jaouen, Joelinton and William Osula. Bazoumana Toure could thus be rewarded with his first Premier League start after scoring at Leeds, while Lewis Miley, Sean Steur, Joe Willock and Aladji Bamba are among the midfield options available to Jaissle.
Hull has taken eight points from its opening four games, beating Manchester United and Coventry while drawing with Aston Villa and Chelsea. Sergej Jakirovic’s side arrives fourth in the table and has already shown it can compete with established Premier League opposition.
