New England Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis III is ready to make his return to the field this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
Davis initially injured his neck in the season opener against Seattle and missed the Week 2 contest against the Steelers. He came back for the following two weeks before missing the Patriots’ last three games.
The cornerback feels his initial return was too soon, but he is now ready to go.
“Just day in, day out, trying to look for ways to get better,” Davis said. “Not trying to rush
the process, but really trying to be efficient, recovering, and getting back out there, being a guy that my team can depend on. “I think the worst is just sitting on the sideline, watching plays being made or being a bystander. Last year, I played in every game. This year I was looking to do the same, and it’s a bit disappointing to not be able to do that. But I’m back here and ready to go.”
The Patriots secondary has not been at full force since Week 1 in Seattle. In addition to Davis, New England has played without safety Craig Woodson for one game and cornerback Christian Gonzalez for two.
Now healthy, the group is excited to be back on the field together.
“It’s going to be great having all the guys back, being at full power and being able to go out there and feed off each other and make plays together,” Davis said.
Gonzalez, who battled an illness last week, shared he was feeling better on Wednesday. He was excited as well to get his fellow cornerback back.
“It’s everything. CD is a great vet, somebody that I lean on a lot, able to talk to, pick his mind about certain things,” Gonzalez said. “He’s seen a lot of ball, so just having him back out there is amazing. So, excited to get all of us back. I think this is the first game since the first week it’s going to be all of us out there. So excited for that to get back on the field with all that.”
