Teofimo Lopez was just recently asked for his thoughts on Keyshawn Davis turning down a title fight against Devin Haney, as his Takeover Promotions company also put in bid for the fight. Ultimately Teofimo’s bid was greatly surpassed by Top Rank, but even that bid wasn’t enough to garner Keyshawn enough money to follow through with the ordered title fight.
“That’s insane to me,” Lopez said. “Maybe something with his legal team and all that, with the Keyshawn Davis side. But this doesn’t look good
on him, on that part. Maybe they have another deal somewhere else, though. Maybe that’s why. But asking for just too much money. You got to prove it, though.
“I think it was [a duck]. Once it gets to purse bid, if you pull out it’s a duck move because you’re basically letting whoever wants to bid on it take the fight, so you’re basically saying yes, and then that happens, which I’ve never seen Top Rank bid that high in my entire career.”
Lopez would also say that his company is looking to show they’re serious about being in the sport and if true, he’ll presumably be looking for his next chance to put something under his own banner.
