Julian Alvarez is running out of options in the final days of the summer transfer window. The Argentine said during the World Cup he wanted out of Atletico Madrid
, but Diego Simeone’s side are refusing to sell to Barcelona.Premier League champions Arsenal are keen on landing Alvarez but the forward is reportedly unwilling to go to the Emirates and there’s a big reason why.
According to Diario Sport, Alvarez lives with family in Spain – including his siblings – but that would not be possible if he
were to return to England for a second spell.
Alvarez has already spent two years in the UK with Manchester City, and laws implemented after Brexit mean that his family would not be able to return if the striker completed a transfer to the Gunners.
Journalist Veronica Brunati explained on X: “The residence permit of some relatives expired after about two years, the parents for example, so they had to leave England or manage another migratory route.”
Alvarez’s wife would be able to able to return to live with the attacker in England but it would be difficult for his extended family to follow. As things stand therefore, it could be that Alvarez ends up staying at Atletico after all.
