Newcastle United’s search for another striker has produced no shortage of links this summer, yet two familiar names remain firmly on the radar as Chelsea begin outlining their plans for the remainder of the transfer window.
The Daily Mail reported that Chelsea’s priority has finally shifted toward player sales after putting together an overloaded squad for the season, while also revealing the valuations attached to several first-team players.
The reported figures could prove significant for Newcastle,
who has previously been linked with forwards Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea “would seek more than the £30 million they spent on Liam Delap if he is to be sold permanently this summer,” while the Blues’ asking price for Jackson is around £65 million as the Blues consider him “among their more sellable strikers.”
While the Mail doesn’t mention Newcastle, it notes that Aston Villa admire Jackson, while “Tottenham asked about his situation” during pre-season, though Spurs are not currently expected to pursue a move. “Others abroad admire Jackson, too. His situation is one to watch in these coming weeks,” the report says.
Those valuations arrive after TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reported that Newcastle had renewed their interest in Delap after missing out on him previously.
“As we also previously revealed, Alonso has informed Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Delap that they are free to move on this summer as he looks to build an attack more suited to his style of play,” Bailey reported. “Leeds United and Newcastle United, both of whom looked at Delap before his move to Chelsea last summer, are also reported by sources to have reopened discussions in his signing, with both clubs described as retaining a firm interest. Both clubs remain in the market for a striker and have been kept informed of the player’s availability.”
Jackson has also been linked with the Magpies in recent months following reports that Chelsea would be willing to listen to offers after his loan spell at Bayern Munich ended.
Whether Newcastle ultimately pursue either striker remains to be seen, as there are much. more pressing needs to address, but Chelsea’s reported valuations now provide a clearer picture of what it could take to land either Premier League forward before the window closes.
