The Los Angeles Rams have made a trade and cleared space in their logjam at tight end.
As first reported by Jordan Schultz on Twitter, the Rams are sending Mark Redman to the Green Bay Packers, with the report coming just three and a half hours before cuts will be finalized.
The return to Los Angeles hasn’t been
confirmed as of press time.
Redman signed a two-year futures deal with the Rams this past offseason, valued at just under $2 million. He was a limited contributor a pass catcher for Los Angeles in its three preseason games, hauling in just three balls for 16 yards.
Of course, catching passes is the secondary role for Redman, whose true value comes as a blocking, “Y” tight end. That type of player is valued across the NFL these days and is one the Rams certainly can make use of, but he lost out on the numbers game here.
In the end, this is a fringe roster trade that makes sense for both sides. The Rams have one fewer roster decision they need to think over at an already jammed position, and the Packers add the kind of tight end they’ve fruitlessly been searching for throughout the offseason.
The Rams still have a number of decisions to make at tight end before rosters are finalized Sunday afternoon, chief among them being how many players to keep at the position overall.
Once that roster math is figured out, the pieces will fall into place. Colby Parkinson is a shoo-in to stay, as are recent draft picks Max Klare and Terrance Ferguson. Tyler Higbee is also probably in a good space to stay on the 53-man roster to start 2026, so there’s limited room for anyone else to squeeze in.
With just a few hours left until the initial roster is set, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Les Snead has been busy tweaking this roster right down to the wire.
