The Buffalo Bills made a flurry of moves on Tuesday, October 28, promoting veterans to the active roster in safety Jordan Poyer and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. In the wake of defensive tackle Ed Oliver’s biceps tear that landed him on Injured Reserve, One Bills Drive also brought in four free-agent defensive linemen for tryouts.
One of those tryouts proved fruitful for both sides, with defensive tackle Olatunbosun “Tommy” Akingbesote reportedly signing on with the Bills ahead of the team’s Week
9 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Akingbesote was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in Round 7 of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was released as part of final roster cutdowns on August 26, at which point he became a free agent and signed with the Carolina Panthers on September 8. The Panthers ultimately released Akingbesote on September 23.
Akingbesote attended the University of Maryland where he played football for the Terrapins. His NFL Scouting Combine numbers showcased a rare blend of size at just under 6’4” and weighing 306 pounds with a 33 1/2-inch arm length and 10” hand span.
His weight has been listed variously, from a low of 285 pounds at Maryland, to as much as 322 pounds while with the Cowboys. Akingbesote has yet to appear in a regular-season game, but he put together a productive four-year college career with the Terrapins. Playing 44 games, Akingbesote totaled 77 tackles (45 solo), eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass defenses, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery, per Sports Reference.
