Cowboys waive 1st-round CB after trading for him in March; sign RB – Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire
Dallas cut ties with Kaiir Elam who was acquired via trade.
Back in March, with All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs early in the process of an offseason knee rehab stint, the Cowboys traded for former first-round
draft pick Kaiir Elam as an insurance policy of sorts. Now, as several of the team’s younger reinforcements start to take on an increased role, Elam has been rendered expendable. The fourth-year veteran was waived by Dallas on Saturday.
The Cowboys signed running back Malik Davis from the practice squad to the active roster to fill Elam’s spot. The 23rd overall pick in 2022 out of Florida, Elam spent his first three seasons with Buffalo before being traded. The Cowboys gave up a fifth-round selection in 2025’s draft and a seventh-rounder in 2026. (Dallas also received a sixth-round pick in 2025, which they used on offensive lineman Ajani Cornelius.)
Diggs was able to return to action for Week 1, but by then, DaRon Bland was also dealing with a foot injury. As a result, Elam saw heavy usage early in the season, playing on every defensive snap over the Cowboys’ first three contests. Over the past three games, though, Elam’s snap count has plummeted, from 95.2% in the Week 8 loss at Denver to 61.2% in Arizona to just three snaps on special teams only versus Las Vegas.
The Cowboys welcomed second-year corner Caelen Carson back to the lineup on Monday and saw him take 100% of the defense’s snaps. In addition, third-round rookie Shavon Revel Jr. also made his NFL debut and showed promise in his 19 plays. Elam is currently fourth on the Cowboys defense in snaps and seventh on the team in tackles, with 29.
Cowboys look to Clip Eagles’ Wings: 3 Bold Predictions – Mario Herrera Jr., Inside the Star
How the Cowboys could ground the Eagles.
The Dallas Cowboys enter Sunday afternoon’s rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles at AT&T Stadium with revenge on their minds. After dropping the opening-night contest in Philadelphia, Dallas has an opportunity to punch back in a major way; this time in front of a home crowd where Dak Prescott has been nearly untouchable. Prescott has not lost a home division game since 2017, a streak that speaks volumes about his command in the biggest NFC East moments.
With how confident I am in a Cowboys victory, it feels like the perfect week for a few bold performances to break the game open. As long as Dallas establishes a respectable run game to keep the Eagles’ ferocious pass rush honest and limit Philadelphia’s offensive possessions, the matchup should tilt in the Cowboys’ favor. With that framework in place, here are three bold predictions for this divisional showdown. They may seem a bit farfetched, sure, but still well within the realm of possibility.
Dak Throws for 400
This first prediction might sound extreme, but it’s grounded in what we know Prescott can be when his receivers win outside and the offensive line holds up. Outside of his 361-yard overtime outlier against the Giants, Prescott hasn’t eclipsed 320 yards in a game this season, which is exactly what makes this such a bold call. Against Philadelphia, the opportunity is real.
With CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens both fully capable of winning one-on-one matchups, especially when games turn into offensive shootouts, Prescott could find himself throwing early and often. If the Cowboys lean into aggressive play-calling and capitalize on mismatches against an Eagles secondary that has shown cracks, this could become the 10th 400-yard passing game of Prescott’s career. In a statement game at home, the stage is certainly set for it.
Overshown Gets 2 Sacks
Overshown racking up two sacks would be a massive swing play for Dallas. Not only because he is easing back from injury, but because he has just five total sacks in his young career. Yet this exact situation is why his presence is so valuable. The Cowboys’ defense desperately missed a true quarterback spy in Week 1, when Jalen Hurts repeatedly extended drives with timely scrambles.
Those back-breaking plays kept the Cowboys offense sidelined far too long. Overshown’s speed, instincts, and range make him uniquely equipped to contain Hurts in ways Dallas couldn’t earlier in the season. With a more disciplined defensive plan and Overshown positioned to attack whenever Hurts breaks the pocket, he has a legitimate chance to register two sacks in a momentum-shifting performance.
Why Was George Pickens Fined $26K by NFL After Cowboys’ Win vs. Raiders? – Julia Stumbaugh-Bleacher Report
With how Pickens is playing, still worth every penny.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens was fined $26,085 for celebrating a Week 11 touchdown catch against the Las Vegas Raiders by jumping on a goalpost at Allegiant Stadium. The NFL cited Pickens for “unsportsmanlike conduct” involving “use of a prop.” The penalty marked the largest fine given out following Week 11. The touchdown, which came on a 37-yard pass from Dak Prescott late in the second quarter, extended the Cowboys’ early lead over the Raiders to 18 points.
Pickens was not initially assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play. He finished the outing with a team-high nine catches for 144 yards as the Cowboys improved to 4-5-1 with a 33-16 victory. Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was also fined $14,491 by the NFL for jumping on the goalpost in a Week 11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although Williams may have faced a lighter financial penalty on his second infraction of the season, his celebration was more costly on the field. The Lions were assessed a 15-yard penalty, and kicker Jake Bates ultimately missed the extra point from 48 yards out. Pickens has already racked up more than $83,000 in fines after committing five infractions through the first 10 games of his first campaign with the Cowboys.
The wide receiver was assessed a total of $28,982 in fines following a Week 2 overtime win against the New York Giants on Sept. 14. The NFL cited Pickens for joining CeeDee Lamb in apparently using finger guns to celebrate a touchdown, as well as for removing his helmet while on the field. Pickens was also fined twice for taunting, receiving an $11,593 penalty following a Week 7 win over the Washington Commanders and a $17,389 fine after a Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Cowboys’ Jake Ferguson has clear lane to Pro Bowl after latest injury news – Levi Dombro, The Landry Hat
Jake Ferguson has been one of the productive tight ends in the NFC, but with Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta going on injured reserve, could Ferguson receive top recognition?
The Dallas Cowboys, despite their bizarre 4-5-1 record, have the best scoring offense in the NFC and the second-best in the entire NFL during the 2025 NFL season. They’ve accomplished this in spite of CeeDee Lamb playing just six complete games during the campaign. Part of filling his void was fellow wideout George Pickens stepping up, and running back Javonte Williams has done quite a bit of damage as well.
Dak Prescott will always get credit when the offense performs at a high level as well, but Jake Ferguson was actually the key ingredient for a bit. Though his production has tapered off a bit in recent weeks, thanks to the re-emergence of Lamb, he is still having a Pro Bowl-level campaign. It was looking unlikely that he’d earn the honor, however, as the NFC’s tight ends have performed at an exceptional level this year. But now, he might.
Sam LaPorta’s unfortuante injury has silver lining for Jake Ferguson
On Friday, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced that tight end Sam LaPorta is likely to miss the remainder of the season with a back injury. Roughly a month ago, Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft also suffered a season-ending injury. While both of these injuries are tragic, and Ferguson would like to earn a Pro Bowl nod in a different way, both LaPorta and Kraft’s injuries pave a clear lane for Ferguson to make the team again this season, as he did back in 2022.
Trey McBride is a shoo-in for the NFC, and a player like George Kittle, despite missing some time due to an injury, will likely earn this distinction based on popularity and fan vote alone. Ferguson was hovering in that tier with LaPorta and Kraft to be on the end of the Pro Bowl roster, but no longer. Ferguson is on pace for 102 receptions, 680 receiving yards and nearly 12 receiving touchdowns this season. His current 7 touchdowns are tied for the league among NFC tight ends, but he has more catches and yards than Dallas Goedert, who has matched his touchdown total.
Cowboys vs. Eagles: Matchups to watch in Week 12 – Brian Martin, Blogging the Boys
These matchups could decide the game.
The Dallas Cowboys lost a close one in the 2025 season opener to the Philadelphia Eagles back in Week 1, but this isn’t the same team as it was back then. The Cowboys have improved on both sides of the ball, especially the defense here recently with all of the new additions. That could prove to be the difference maker this week, but only if they don’t allow certain matchups to get the better of them.
Today, we have a few matchups we believe the Dallas Cowboys could possibly take advantage of to help sway the game in their favor. Probably to know one’s surprise, they are on the defensive side of the ball.
DE Donovan Ezeiruaku vs. RT Fred Johnson
Not having to face the Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson in Week 12 is good news for the Cowboys. He has been one of the best RTs, if not the best, since entering the league. He recently suffered a Lisfranc injury that will take him out of action. With him not in the lineup, Philadelphia swing tackle Fred Johnson will step into the starting role. The Eagles have a lot of faith in their backup, but there is still going to be a noticeable drop in production. This is something Donovan Ezeiruaku and the rest of the Cowboys pass rusher’s should try to take advantage of. The more uncomfortable they can make Jalen Hurts the better.
LB DeMarvion Overshown vs. QB Jalen Hurts
The last time these two teams played each other in the season opener the Eagles QB Jalen Hurts played a big part in securing the victory. The Cowboys couldn’t seem to find a solution for how to stop him from doing damage with his legs. He ended up rushing for 62 yards on just 14 attempts and scored two touchdowns. If Dallas wants a chance to upset the Eagles in this Week 12 matchup, they can’t allow that to happen again. That’s where DeMarvion Overshown comes in. Matt Eberflus would be wise to use him as a spy on Hurts to try to keep him contained inside the pocket, forcing him to try to win the game with his arm instead of his legs.
