Saturday will be Tennessee Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel’s first meeting versus the Texas Longhorns since 2014, as well as his first as a head coach. Overall, as both as former player and in previous assistant coaching roles, Heupel is 8-5 versus Texas.
As Oklahoma’s quarterback, he went 1-1, losing 38-28 in 1999 and winning 63-14 in 2000 (ouch to the latter.)
As an assistant coach at Oklahoma, Heupel went 7-4. And while he was, indeed, Missouri’s offensive coordinator in 2017, Heupel didn’t coach the
Tigers in the Texas Bowl against Texas that season due to his hiring as head coach at UCF in early December of that year.
