As been expected all week, the Las Vegas Raiders will start backup quarterback Kenny Pickett on Sunday at the Philadelphia Eagles.
Raiders’ starting quarterback missed all week of practice with shoulder
and back injuries. Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll made it official Friday by saying Pickett will play. Carroll added that there is a good chance Smith will be able to play in Week 16 at the Houston Texans.
Smith departed Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter with a right shoulder injury. He also cut his hand in the game. Wednesday, the Raiders added his back to the list of his ailments. At tis point, Carroll made it sound as if Smith’s back issue in a bigger concern than the shoulder problem.
This will be Pickett’s first start with the Raiders since they traded a fifth-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for him in August. Pickett is 15-10 as a starter in his career.

Pickett completed 8 of 11 passes for 7 yards and a touchdown while playing in garbage time Sunday against Denver. Pickett, 27, was the Eagles’ backup during their Super Bowl-winning season last year. He was 1-0 as a starter for the Eagles in 2024. Now, he will face them with the Silver and Black.
