Lothar Matthäus has a message for anyone criticizing Michael Olise for being quiet, avoiding interviews, or simply choosing to express himself differently: who cares?
Matthäus believes Olise should be allowed to be comfortable in his own way, rather than being pushed into becoming a personality that he simply is not.
“I think he’s fine the way he is, because why does he have to talk if he doesn’t want to? Just because we want him to, so that he makes headlines? He doesn’t want that; it’s just not his
nature. Someone like me stands in front of the camera and talks, whereas Olise would rather go somewhere after the game where he feels comfortable. His comfort zone is probably not the microphone or the camera, but rather the people around him. And I don’t see any problem with that at all,” said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “As long as he plays football the way he does, then he can wear whatever he wants and walk past any microphone he likes, because for me, what he does on the pitch is far more entertaining than any interviews.”
And honestly, there is something refreshing about that perspective.
Olise does not need to become a social-media personality, give endless interviews, or change his appearance to justify his place among football’s elite. His job is to play football, and he has been doing that exceptionally well.
His performances for Bayern Munich, and France, have already made plenty of noise without him needing to say much himself.
Some players entertain with their words.
Olise prefers to do it with the ball at his feet.
And Matthäus clearly has no problem with that.
