With the fifth pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the New York Giants select Carnell Tate, wide receiver from Ohio State.
Here’s
SuperBowlONLYoption explaining the pick:
Carnell Tate has elite ball skills, not to mention few, if any drops. The Giants, and specifically Jaxson Dart, will benefit greatly from having another star wideout alongside Malik Nabers. Ohio State is known for producing high quality receivers. Tate is no exception. At the Combine, he recorded a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash. He has polished footwork off the line to create free releases and at the top of routes to set up breaks. Tate’s strong downfield ball skills, consistently tracking and adjusting to the football in the air, along with his size, length and aggressive play style allow him to win contested throws and finish catches outside his frame. Unlike Amon-Ra St. Brown, Carnell needs to work more on his yards after catch (YAC). He tends to ‘gear down’ somewhat after many of his catches.
While Big Blue does need an infusion of talent on the defensive side of the ball, having a room full of playmakers will lessen the load on the defense. This is a great pick. I personally went through a ton of highlight clips on various players at different positions on both sides of the ball (see Love, Styles, Reese, Downs). He led the nation in 2025 with six receiving touchdowns of 30 or more air yards and pairs that vertical production with a wide catch radius thanks to his wingspan. Tate is strong in the middle of the field, particularly when leveraging zone coverage downfield. However, he struggles at times to play through contact at the catch point. It’s also worth noting much of his production came against No. 2 corners. In New York, he should benefit from playing opposite another true No. 1 target such as Malik Nabers.
