We were really sorry to see Nik Khamenia enter the portal. He probably didn’t play as much as he wanted this year, and probably didn’t have the role that he wanted, but he was really valuable to this team.
A solid all-round player, and a real winner, Khamenia could have built a much bigger role after a summer of weightlifting. His potential is considerable. There are rumors that he might change his mind, and we hope that he does, but whatever happens, we’ll follow him with great interest. He’s special.
So is Caleb Foster.
He could have left after last season, but opted to work through everything, and when the season started, Foster emerged as a huge key for the Blue Devils. People will remember his astonishing return against St. John’s for a very long time.
People tend to overlook this, but with injuries to Foster, Pat Ngongba, and then Cam Boozer playing against UConn with a fractured orbital socket, it was all a bit much to overcome. And yet, Duke almost did.
If Foster chooses to come back for his senior season, he stands a chance at becoming perhaps the most beloved Blue Devil since Shane Battier.
