The Cowboys joint practice with the Saints had several scuffles but there were also some intriguing observations when it came to what happen on the field. Terence Steele has been the starting right tackle in Dallas for quite some time now, but unfortunately, there’s still some questions regarding if he’s the answer going forward.
Christian Parker has tunnel vision when it comes to getting the defense in Dallas on point, even if its to detriment of his sleeping habits. The Cowboys were able to get veteran
pass rusher Von Miller signed, but the incentives in his deal make it an even bigger win for the franchise.
Notes and observations from Dallas Cowboys-New Orleans Saints joint practice – Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
There were plenty of fireworks in the Cowboys joint practice with the Saints, and fists began flying on multiple occasions. However, some positive developments came about for Dallas as well.
Amid Fights, Defense Finds Pass Rush
Cowboys defense vs. Saints offense periods observed: 1.5 of 3
Even though this side of the field was marred by at least five scuffles, there was still some good work from the Cowboys pass rush to pull out of it.
While Saints quarterback Tyler Shough had an overall solid day in the pass game, his offensive line didn’t do him many favors. Rashan Gary had two sacks, Malachi Lawrence had a sack and Shemar James had a sack in periods observed by the Star-Telegram.
Mailbag: Is right tackle a concern? – Mickey Spagnola, DallasCowboys.com
There were still some questions about the left tackle spot in Dallas coming into training camp. The bigger issue may be on the right side, despite Terence Steele holding down the position for several years now.
Mickey: Well, who might you suggest? Starting tackles in this NFL are not a dime a dozen, and there is no obvious replacement for Terence Steele on the current roster. Worse, you might have asked who is the backup swing tackle? Did not think current backup candidate Nate Thomas did himself any favors with his performance in the Seattle preseason game and not sure you want to start or trust a fourth-round rookie in Drew Shelton to handle either of those jobs.
Christian Parker’s Unhealthy Sleeping Habits Could Be Key To Dallas Cowboys Success – Randy Gurzi, SI.com
Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Christian Parker is stepping into the unknown when it comes to calling plays for an entire unit. According to him, he’s not sleeping much, but that may be a good thing.
The first-year defensive coordinator is so dedicated to the job that there are rumors he very rarely sleeps. During a Wednesday press conference, Parker was asked about his unhealthy sleeping habits and while he didn’t want to dive too deep into the number of hours he sleeps, Parker did admit that his focus on work often leaves him little time for himself.
“That’s not something I wanna talk about. I’m not exactly proud of that, but the job has to get done. I just go down that rabbit hole and then look up and the time is gone,” Parker said via Patrik Walker.
Von Miller contract incentives finally revealed, and new intel makes the Dallas Cowboys look even better – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZ Sports
Veteran pass rusher Von Miller is now in Dallas, and it didn’t cost much to get him here. When looking at the incentives in his deal, it makes the addition even sweeter.
The Dallas Cowboys’ signing of Von Miller keeps getting better and better. As I indicated in an earlier article, Miller signing a one-year contract worth $5.5 million was the perfect confirmation of the team’s intentions with him: He’s here to be a rotational piece, not a star.
Well, the latest contract intel is already making the deal age like fine wine. Let’s look at the contract incentives and projected cap number.
CeeDee Lamb applauds impact of Cowboys OC Klayton Adams: ‘The scheme is amazing’ – SportsDay Staff, Dallas Morning News
When Klayton Adams joined the Cowboys’ staff in 2025, their running game immediately took a step up. In his second year, his detail and preparation have caught the eye of All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
What has Klayton Adams meant to the run game last year, going into this year? What does he bring that’s difference-making?
Lamb: The scheme is amazing. Oh my God. I’ll be up there in the meetings. I’m taking notes, but I’m just watching him design, and when we get into gameplanning, obviously it’s much more shorter, so right now we’re just reinstalling everything in which we did in minicamp, and we put the plays on film so we can go over it in film and see what we’re going to carry over to the season.
Cowboys’ Donovan Ezeiruaku is the only thing stopping his Year 2 breakout – Jason Kandel, The Landry Hat
Donovan Ezeiruaku was gotten into multiple fights during training camp. He has unlimited potential, but he needs to control himself a little better.
The Cowboys have a no-fighting rule, but things always get a little chippy. The more alarming aspect of this is that NFL rules mandate players get sent off for throwing a punch. The message should have been clear after last time, especially since this defense is better with him on the field.
Ezeiruaku doesn’t turn 23 until September, so while he’s obviously plenty talented, he needs to be able to keep his composure. He was also arrested this offseason for reckless driving, so it hasn’t exactly been a banner offseason for the second-year pro.
