Considering what Koa Peat has done in games against Top 5 opponents this season it would be easy to forget that he’s only five games into his college career. And in those three weeks he’s already been
recognized by the Big 12 Conference twice for his play.
Peat has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week following his double-double in last week’s win at then-No. 3 UConn, scoring 16 points with 12 rebounds. He and guard Jaden Bradley, who had 21 against the Huskies, were both named to the league’s weekly Starting Five.
It’s the second Big 12 award for Peat, who was co-Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week after his monster debut against defending national champion Florida earlier this month.
Peat is averaging 16.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists this season. He is one of six freshmen in Division I averaging at least 16, 6 and 2.
Bradley is averaging 16.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.2 steals while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. Only three other players in the country are averaging those numbers.
