Lamine Yamal has named his favorites for the 2025-26 Champions League title ahead of Barcelona’s opening game of the competition against Newcastle on Thursday.
Barcelona reached the semi-finals last season, before being knocked out by Inter, and will be hoping to go all the way in the coming campaign.
Yamal has now been asked which teams will be Barca’s biggest rivals in the competition and came up with five teams.
“Manchester City or Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain… They’re
always there,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
The teenager was then asked what lessons Barcelona had learnt from their heartbreaking defeat to Inter.
“In the Champions League, any mistake you make comes at a price. You have to be more consistent and never let up.”
Barcelona and Newcastle have met four times before in the Champions League, with the Catalans wining three of those matches. The last encounter was a 2-0 win for Barcelona at St James’ Park back in 2003.
