In her Olympics debut, Ohio State women’s ice hockey player Joy Dunne is already making her mark for Team USA, scoring twice through the team’s first three games.
Dunne, a junior forward for the Buckeyes, scored Team USA’s second goal of the Olympic competition in Thursday’s preliminary game against Czechia. The game marked Dunne’s first career Olympic game.
Dunne’s goal came early in the second period, off an assist from Tessa Janecke. The United States went on to win that game, 5-1.
On Monday, Dunne added a second goal in the second period of a preliminary round game against Switzerland, this time bouncing the puck off the skate of Swiss player Stefanie Wetli to extend Team USA’s lead to 2-0. The U.S. added three more goals in the third period en route to a 5-0 victory.
Dunne has been a standout, not just for Team USA but for the Buckeyes as well. One of 12 Ohio State women’s ice hockey players selected to represent their country in Milan Cortina, Dunne currently leads Ohio State in goals this season with 25, in addition to 19 assists.
She holds program records in single season points and game-winning goals, and she scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA national championship game in 2024.
Dunne is no stranger to the international stage, either. She first made the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships with Team USA in 2024, winning silver, before taking gold in 2025.
One of six children, all of her siblings played collegiate hockey, including her sisters Jessica and Jincy who also played for Ohio State. Jincy herself was a member of the United States’ Olympic team in 2022 and competed in Beijing.
Up next, you can watch Dunne, plus teammates and former Buckeyes Cayla Barnes and Hannah Bilka, take on Canada today, Tuesday, in a rematch of the 2022 Beijing Olympics gold medal game. Canada won, 3-2.
The Americans will face four former Buckeyes on the Canadian side as well in Jenn Gardiner, Sophie Jaques, Emma Maltais and Natalie Spooner.
Both teams will advance to the quarterfinal round, but this game will have major implications for seeding in that round, as the winner of this matchup is expected to win Group A.
The game will air at 2:00 p.m. EST on USA Network. Both the live stream and replay will be available on Peacock.
