The news of Bruce Prichard retiring from his role leading WWE’s writing teams (or stepping back from it to take on a less-involved, more-advisory position) came along with talk that Prichard’s replacement could come from within. It was also said that the long-time Vince McMahon lieutenant’s exit could be the start of a wider “changing of the guard” in WWE’s creative department.
We’ll see about other positions, but PWInsider is reporting that Prichard will be replaced by one of current WWE Chief Content
Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s long-time friends and associates, the man who’s been either in charge of or part of the team running NXT since 2021, Shawn Michaels.
Just as we were always warned could happen during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras… D-Generation X has taken over the company.
Back to present day though, Insider’s sources told the site “this succession plan has been in place for some time and that Michaels will start to prepare for the Prichard role in the months ahead.”
As for Shawn’s current purview? False Finish has heard “those within the Performance Center expect AJ Styles to be more hands on within NXT as a result of Shawn Michaels promotion.” Since retiring at Royal Rumble earlier this year, Styles has been focused on scouting talent, but has also worked in a variety of roles in WWE Developmental. That could have been preparing him for this.
