The Comets were humbled by the Chihuahuas on the road, while the Drillers opened their Division Series with a walk-off loss to the Cardinals.
Player of the Day
In a game in which eight out of nine hitters in the starting lineup for the Drillers struck out multiple times—enduring a tough 9-7 defeat to the Cardinals—Mike Sirota was the only one to record more than a single hit.
The Drillers’ designated hitter, who is batting .306 across multiple levels this season, hit a single in the first and later crushed a two-run
shot, his 10th in 71 games with the Drillers and 17th overall in 2026.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The 11-5 score in this Comets loss doesn’t do the Chihuahuas the proper justice. That’s because four of the Drillers’ five runs came in the top of the ninth, simply to avoid what would’ve been a double-digit defeat against a team that entered play with a 58-86 record.
Starter Gavin Stone had a much worse performance than the scoreless one he delivered against El Paso at the end of August. Stone allowed four runs in just three innings, the most runs he has allowed since he was activated a month and a half ago. The veteran Jake Cousins was the one who struggled the most out of the bullpen, allowing four runs after he had let in just one in four innings of work.
Third baseman Ryan Fitzgerald couldn’t generate any offense when the Comets still had a shot at staying in this game, but by hitting a two-run shot in the ninth, he is now one RBI short of 100 for the season. Chris Newell also left the yard for his 24th home run in 2026.
Double-A Tulsa
It takes a specific type of disappointing performance to lose the lead not once, not twice, but three times on your way to a 9-7 loss. The Drillers started things off with home runs in the first and second from Taylor Young and Griffin Lockwood-Powell; unfortunately, both of them were solo shots, as a theme of lack of runners in scoring position began to develop.
You wouldn’t know from looking at the number of home runs the Drillers hit in this loss—four total, with Mike Sirota and Charles Davalan joining in on the action late in this one; however, it was still, in some ways, a difficult performance for the Drillers’ lineup, striking out a whopping 17 times and recording just a single at-bat with a runner in scoring position the whole game.
The first Drillers pitcher to surrender a lead was starter Adam Serwinowski, who, after holding the Cardinals to three scoreless innings, allowed a three-run bomb to Jake Guravitch in the bottom of the fourth, making it a 3-3 game.
Five relievers entered the game for the Drillers, and only Payton Martin was able to record a scoreless performance, holding the opposition down for 2.1 innings before a late implosion resulted in this 9-7 defeat. With the score tied at 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth, Jesús Báez walked it off with a two-run shot off Carson Hobbs.
The next game of this Division Series will be hosted by the Drillers on Thursday, with starter Christian Zazueta going up against left-hander Liam Doyle.
High-A Great Lakes
The Great Lakes Loons were eliminated by the Dayton Dragons in the Division Series, losing it two games to one.

The Ontario Tower Buzzers were swept by the Lake Elsinore Storm in the Division Series.
