The Washington Mystics have finished their 2026 WNBA season with a 28-16 record after what was supposed to be a long term rebuild with a young roster. Instead, the young roster was rocket fuel toward what should be a long term WNBA championship contender in the years to come.
Last season, Washington played all of their home games except their regular season finale at CareFirst Arena. Washington’s regular season finale was at Capital One Arena.
The Mystics also played their lone playoff home game against
the Atlanta Dream at CareFirst. The Dream, who are now in the WNBA Finals, played their postseason games at State Farm Arena and had their Finals games move to the larger venue after pushback from fans. Previously, the Dream played at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Ga. which is a much smaller venue that carries 3,500 seats. CareFirst Arena carries 4,200 and is now the smallest home arena in the WNBA.
Next season, the Dream will play all of their 25 home games at State Farm Arena. Hopefully that includes the playoffs. But the Mystics are still slated to play at CareFirst Arena next year due to a lease with the D.C. government that keeps them there through 2037. With new expansion teams playing in much larger venues, and the Mystics now looking more like a future championship contender than a lottery one … do you think it’s time for the Mystics to be at Capital One Arena full time as well?
