To worry or not to worry? Florian Wirtz arrived in Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen with all the expectation of a mega-blockbuster summer transfer. And so far, he is not yet a unanimous Ballon d’Or pick.
Surely that means it’s time to hit the panic button?
Or not. Count Bayern Munich star and Germany national team teammate Joshua Kimmich among Wirtz’s backers.
“I’ve contacted him. But there’s absolutely no reason for him to doubt himself,” Kimmich revealed in comments for Welt AM Sonntag (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Flo has the perfect blend of quality and mentality that will always lead to the top as a player in the long run.
“He has to stay patient and, of course, is also dependent on his team. I’m seeing again at this camp what he’s capable of and how much he can rely on his strengths.”
Patience is a virtue not often seen in sports. Still there is no reason yet not to expect Liverpool to be rewarded for bringing Wirtz in.
