The Atlanta Falcons were busy working the waiver wire after cutdown, and that will mean swift changes are on the way for their initial 53 man roster.
Per the league transaction wire, Atlanta claimed former Jaguars linebacker Yasir Abdullah, former Seahawks linebacker Jared Ivey, and former Eagles tackle Cameron Williams. We’re likely to get the corresponding moves from the team shortly, so check back here for updates.
Abdullah
is an infrequent contributor on defense to this point in his career, but has been a major factor for Jacksonville’s special teams over the past two seasons, playing 70-plus percent of the special teams snaps in the 24 games he’s appeared in over that span. He had eight special teams tackles for the Jaguars in 2025 and played just a handful of snaps on defense, and isn’t particularly likely to crack Atlanta’s rotation. He could push JD Bertrand off the roster, however, and Atlanta is continuing to focus on burnishing their special teams ability after a strong summer in that regard.
Ivey might get more run on defense. The former Seattle undrafted free agent made the team out of training camp last year and played very sparingly, contributing lightly on defense and special teams but not amassing any counting statistics along the way. What he has working for him is a solid reputation against the run that he continued to showcase this summer for Seattle and at least some pass rushing potential; that combination might help him grab a limited early down role in this edge group that we expected Bralen Trice to grab ahold of. At the very least, Atlanta will get a multi-week look at him before the season to see how well he fits.
Finally, there’s Williams, who was cut despite being a sixth round pick by the Eagles a year ago. Philadelphia was reportedly not thrilled with his lack of year-over-year development, but now he’s in Bill Callahan’s grasp and the team will hope to unlock his potential as they continue to look to the future at tackle. We’ll see if this means Ethan Onianwa is headed to the practice squad.
