Dear Roker Report,
I absolutely love Xhaka’s comments about us facing Arsenal this weekend. He is such a winner that he expects nothing less than victory. This guy will not be happy with a draw, and he will make those feelings
clear during the match.
There was a time when we played teams such as Arsenal and Chelsea, and in reality, it was about damage limitation. Now, with a packed house and Mr Invincible driving us on from midfield, anything really is possible.
The whole region has been given a lift. People wear their club tops with pride, and Xhaka is massively responsible for it. He has a superb mentality. I think he has another 2-3 years at this level, as he looks after himself and looks in superb shape. I really hope the club has something lined up for him when his boots do finally get hung up.
He loves us and we definitely love him.
He has the winning mentality of Roy Keane, but he also possesses the ability to control his emotions and channel them the right way during a match. He is a gold nugget for us all, and long may it continue.
Peter Milton
Ed’s Note [Gav]: I fully agree on Xhaka – he’s been an unbelievable signing and I think in the years to come we’ll be talking about him as one of the most important and influential figures in the club’s history. It’s just a shame we aren’t getting him when he was five years younger, but at the minute it doesn’t seem to matter — on the pitch he’s playing like a much younger man!
Dear Roker Report,
When Lineker had his temper tantrum a while ago and all his mates – Shearer, Richards, Wright and co. – refused to broadcast on Match of the Day, the programme was football only, no crap talk by boring people. The show was so much more enjoyable. Since then, I tape the show, watch the football and fast-forward the rest. So I don’t listen to Shearer or any of them. Ever. His opinion is of no interest. I have never read anything he has written or listened to anything he has said; he is nothing to me.
Gerald Kearney
Ed’s Note [Gav]: I do the same, to be honest. I record it on Sky and then skip through the analysis. I did watch it at the start of the season but all the analysis is lazy – it’s always the same, focusing on what we’ve spent, mixed in with some joking about how Shearer doesn’t want to talk about us. Boring.
Dear Roker Report,
In light of what has happened in the news about Andrew (the person formally known as Prince Andrew, Duke of York), should the club look at changing the association of the stadium being opened by such a person?
Maybe the club could see if a Royal could reopen, or a famous person associated with the club, so that we can distance the club from the association and move on to better things.
George Heighton
Ed’s Note [Gav]: As long as they have a plaque at the Stadium with his name on, yes – they need to consider removing it, but hopefully they do it discreetly and quietly.
