After a rough one last Saturday, I didn’t want to think about football ever again for a solid 24 hours. That’s maybe a record for me. Hope springs eternal for this dawg, and while I don’t relish the conundrum
that is those damn crimson helmets, I’m ready to watch Vanderbilt vex them. I’ll also enjoy watching the Dawgs early so I can settle into enjoying other folks’ football problems for the rest of the evening.
Here’s your Week 6 TV Preview
THURSDAY
Sam Houston State at New Mexico State ESPN 7:30 pm EST (6:30 CT)
Growing pains continue for the Bearkats as they open week 6 in Las Cruces against the New Mexico State Aggies. In their sophomore FBS effort, the Kats are 0-4 and sport one of the worst passing offenses this year. Look for the pass-happy Aggies to run a clinic in front of a friendly home crowd Thursday night.
FRIDAY
Western Kentucky at Delaware CBSSN 7:00 EST (6:00 CT)
I love a good mascot matchup. In this case, the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky head to Delaware to challenge the Fightin’ Blue Hens. The ‘Tops haven’t been to Delaware since 1982, when they shut out the Blue Hens 31-0. Keep in mind that was two bowl structures ago, and these two teams are evenly matched, with Delaware a mere two-point favorite at home. Western Kentucky will look to spoil that and improve to 3-0 in conference play.
SATURDAY
Kentucky at 12 Georgia ABC Noon EST (11:00 CT)
The Dawgs will kick it off early in Athens as we host a Kentucky that may already be peeping the basketball schedule. We’ll shake off last week and hopefully keep the Wildcats at arm’s length as we look to the mid point of the season.
16 Vanderbilt at 10 Alabama ABC 3:30 EST (2:30 CT)
Diego Pavia is genuinely, unironically, a capital-D “Dude.” He’s playing exciting football and has rallied the Commodores to become one of the more exciting squads to watch this season. I never thought I’d be happy to avoid Vandy, but here we are. I don’t know what to do with the hope for a transitive loss to Vandy. Football is a complex sport.
3 Miami (FL) at Florida State ABC 7:30 pm EST (6:30CT)
A mean-looking Miami is blowing into Tallahassee for the main event. The Seminoles have shown shades of brilliance all season, and the Hurricanes are, well, mean-looking. Coach Mario Cristobal has, so far, avoided game management woes of the past, but keep an eye on TOs in the second half. It’ll be loud on Saturday night in Tallahassee as both teams are looking to make a statement in conference play.
We’ve got a really great slate of games to enjoy this week. Check-in if you’d like me to talk about a particular team, or if you think I’m wrong about the Fightin’ Blue Hens being a dope mascot.
