The LSU women’s soccer team dropped their non-conference game against Florida Gulf Coast 3-2 earlier today. This puts LSU’s record at 1-3-0 and FGCU’s at 2-1-1. This is the first time since 2016 that LSU’s failed to win at least two of their first four non-conference games.
The Tigers and Eagles each had 16 shots, and FGCU had 8 shots on goal to LSU’s 6. The difference in the game wasn’t off a shot on goal in the run of play, but the result is still quite stunning. In 2025, LSU went into Fort Meyers
and beat the doors off this program 6-1. This year, they lost. This also marks the first time that LSU’s lost consecutive non-conference games since losing their last four in 2019.
LSU opened the scoring very early with a second minute goal after Ryann Denecour crossed the ball for Ava Galligan, who set the ball and slammed it into the top right corner of the net. FGCU equalized at the start of the 20th minute when Keira Morgan sent the ball forward to Kaitlin Gabelman, who beat her marker and sent it in with ease. In the 38th minute, FGCU executed a perfect set play off a throw-in and scored with an Ava Russell boot. The Eagles put the game away in the 84th minute with a Sarah Greiner penalty kick goal. An Alexia Hansen goal in the 85th minute gave LSU a second goal, but it was too little, too late.
LSU moves to 1-1-0 all-time against FGCU. The Tigers will head for somewhere that’s roughly as hot as Baton Rouge. On Thursday, August 27, LSU will be in Tempe to face Arizona State, a game which will be on ESPN+ at 9:00 p.m. On Sunday, August 30, LSU will be back on the same field facing Arizona at noon on the same network.
