Diamondbacks news
Let’s start with the good news
Okay, hope you enjoyed that because that’s pretty much where the happy news ends.
(Burn City Sports) Big inning problems continue for Diamondbacks in blowout loss to Braves
Thursday’s game marked another instance this season in which
the D-Backs have struggled to limit damage once an inning begins to unravel.
Throughout the opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, both Nelson and right-hander Zac Gallen cruised against a tough offense until one inning spoiled their effectiveness. Against the Tigers, Arizona’s pitching also allowed big innings in two of the three games.
(SI.com) How Concerning Ryne Nelson’s Ugly Start Against the Braves Really is
Nelson hung a zero on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, but the fifth is when it all fell apart. Nelson — still struggling with command — walked back-to-back hitters to open the frame.
And then, a rare error by third baseman Nolan Arenado led to a meltdown. With bases loaded, Nelson issued his third walk of the inning to score a run. A slow throw by Ketel Marte then led to missed opportunity to turn another double play.
(Arizona Sports) Diamondbacks’ Hall: Ribbon boards at Chase Field ‘a bit of a miss’
“I’m keeping track … (28 fans) doesn’t sound like a big number, but it could be one and I’m not happy,” Hall said. “Of course, we tested and we had cardboard structures out there where it would be and then it ended up being a little bit further than the facade, because we have a catwalk for future repairs.”
[Ed. Note] This is just mindboggling to me. If I’m reading this correctly, they tested the new views with cardboard cutouts of what the new video boards would be like, but completely neglected to test it with a mock up of the repair catwalk. That’s just astonishing levels of you’ve-got-to-be-kidding me. If I were a season ticket holder, I would be livid. And that’s before you get into the fact it’s impacting the press box. It’s not a Diamondbacks/Hall/Kendrick thing, but what another perfect example of a large corporation just not having any foresight into how their changes are going to effect their consumer base beyond “we get to charge more money for advertising.” Bit of a mess… yeah I’d say so, Hall.
MLB News
Carter had an oversight,” Quatraro said after the Royals’ 5-1 loss to the Twins, via MLB.com. “Overslept. Wasn’t here on time, and we made the decision to scratch him from the lineup.”
Quatraro clarified that this was a rare instance for the 22-year-old catcher.
“He’s a stand-up guy, a really hard worker, a great kid,” he said. “He feels terrible. He’s accountable to it. It’s not something that has been a pattern or any of that kind of stuff. Nobody feels worse than he does, and I think he’ll admit to that. And we’ll move on.”
The Pittsburgh Pirates are calling up one of baseball’s best prospects. Shortstop Konnor Griffin will be summoned to make his MLB debut in the team’s home opener Friday, the Pirates announced Thursday. The news comes as the two sides are reportedly working on a long-term extension, which is expected to be in the range of nine years and $140 million, reports ESPN.
(The Dallas Morning News) Texas Rangers’ new 2026 ballpark foods include 3 head-scratchers
The most ludicrous new food sold at Globe Life Field in 2026 is the 9th Inning Rally Sombrero, a fried tortilla in the shape of a 26-inch diameter edible hat. It’s filled with nine-layer dip. Because seven-layer dip isn’t big enough in Texas.
Now before you ask how many people can gorge on a savory, supersize sombrero, just chill, calorie counters. This mammoth meal is vegetarian. It’s made with layers of tortilla, refried beans, cheddar cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, black olives, jalapeños, shredded lettuce and sour cream.
If anything, they exercised restraint: A lesser concessions team might have added brisket.
