Welcome to Day 14 of our 30 Day Countdown, and today we will be forecasting who will be the breakout player for the Huskies on offense! As usual, sound off in the comments with your own suggestion, and let’s get into it!
WR Jordan Clay
2025 Stats (High School): 55 receptions, 1300 yards, 12 touchdowns (Source)
This is probably going to be a fairly popular pick, but I was impressed enough by Clay in the Spring game to believe that he can be a contributor, in much the same way that Roebuck or RVB was last year (though
let’s hope he doesn’t transfer like RVB did in the winter). And plus, as I have said, Fisch likes to play Freshman, so while Clay may not be an immediate starter (especially because of the presence of guys like Rashid Williams or Christian Moss), he still could be a valuable contributor with an increased role, like with what we saw from Roebuck last year. Seeing as he was a fairly high ranked recruit (the 17th ranked wide receiver nationally and the 18th ranked player in the state of Texas), it’s no surprise that our own Luke Kemper had high praise for Clay. “Clay should be very much involved in competing for the starting job from the moment he steps foot on campus and there is a very real possibility he starts as a true freshman.”
That might be all of the endorsement I need. It’ll be interesting to see if he breaks through, and what role he occupies in the Husky offense!
RB Quaid Carr
2025 Stats: 4 carries, 14 yards
Running back is the position group that I personally am most worried about going into the season. Between injuries and no clear number one having emerged quite yet, it’s the biggest question mark for me personally. With a shortage of proven talent at the position, it has created a vacuum of sorts. Quaid Carr has stepped up to fill that vacuum, playing much of spring practice as transfers Jayden Limar and Trey Cooley healed up. Now, with the running back competition still up in the air, Carr could carve out a nice role for himself, if not be named the starter outright. Even if he doesn’t start, he should see an uptick in touches as he has the potential to be a very good contributor!
RB Brian Bonner
2025 Stats (High School): 113 carries, 1051 yards (9.3 YPC), 13 TDs. 18 receptions, 525 yards (29.2 Yards per Catch), 5 TDs (Source).
Another young running back makes the cut, and looking at the stats, you can probably see why! The number 7 running back nationally and the number 16 player overall out of California, Bonner’s consistently eye popping stats were one of the things that made me put him on this list. But he’s not just a running back, as he was a California State Championship qualifier in the 100 meters as a sophomore, running a wind aided 10.48. He also posted a 21.84 in the 200 meters, again as a sophomore.
What brought me to the conclusion to put him on this list is the fact that he is also very versatile, catching passes and turning them into big, home-run type plays. He even did this just yesterday, according to the Seattle Times, catching a pass from QB2 Elijah Brown for a touchdown! If he can do that in regular game action, then Coach Fisch might have no choice but to play him! Our own Andrew Berg said in his commitment post that Bonner “brings the kind of versatile star power to the RB room previously exhibited by Myles Gaskin, Bishop Sankey, and Chris Polk.” In any case, Bonner has the opportunity to break through and become the feature back the Dawgs have been searching for. It’s all dependent on the coaching staff to see the vision, and they just might!
The Verdict: Give me Jordan Clay, if for no other reason than we’ve seen it before with Roebuck. Plus, he made an impressive catch in the spring game, where Demond fired a bullet and Clay caught it. That made me very intrigued by Clay’s potential, and for this reason, I’m picking him! Bonner almost beat him out, as did Carr, and they could both have very good seasons. But the circumstances of Clay’s recruitment (being a late flip from Baylor), lead me to having a hunch that if he’s not the Roebuck of 2026, he’s the RVB. Again, let’s hope he doesn’t transfer!
