The Bears announced their team captain for the 2025 regular season over social media on Tuesday.
The team captains announced will be quarterback Caleb Williams, left guard Joe Thuney, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, free safety Kevin Byard, and kicker Cairo Santos. This selection process leaves Chicago with two captains on offense, two captains on defense, and one captain on special teams.
Of those players chosen, four of them have been in the NFL for more than ten years. Williams is the only exception,
having been in the league for two seasons now. Given the vast experience and success of the veterans selected, it’s hardly surprising they went with established locker room leaders as captains, even if Thuney and Jarrett are new to the organization.
Under then-head coach Matt Eberflus, the Bears named eight team captains in the 2024 season. Of those eight players chosen, only Williams and Byard return as captains in 2025. Seven of those selected players remain on the roster, though. Linebackers T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds, wide receiver D.J. Moore, cornerback Jaylon Johnson, and tight end Cole Kmet are the returning players who will not return in captain roles this season. The eighth was tight end Marcedes Lewis, who remains unsigned as of this writing.
