Ted Scott likes Connecticut. As the caddie for former Bulldog Bubba Watson, Scott saw his golfer capture 3 Travelers Championships at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. But the last was in 2018, as Watson’s mercurial nature bled into his golf game producing inconsistent play and falling farther down leaderboards.
After discussions with Watson, and apparently an interview process that Ted insisted upon with a prospective player, Scott left for a up and comer out of Texas. Fast forward a couple of years,
and Ted Scott is on the bag for the most dominant player in golf since Tiger Woods.
With the PGA Tour back in the northeast this week, we find Ted Scott in a familiar place, with his player Scottie Schefler at the top of the leaderboard. The bad news is that Scheffler had company at the top, with Viktor Hovland tying him at 21 under par. And a rain delay forced a playoff until Monday morning, where Hovland dispatched Scottie after 1 hole in sudden death.
That’s all well and good, but let’s take a look at where former Bulldogs finished up:
Sepp Straka seemed uninspired, and shot every round over par en route to a last place finish for the 72 man, no cut field. He still cashes a check though.
Harris English never shot over par, but you have to go low when everyone around you is making birdies in bunches. He finishes T38 at 10 under par.
Brian Harman was in the same boat as English, but a Saturday 63 jumped him around 30 places, and he eventually settles at 12 under par and T25.
Keith Mitchell did the same thing, shot 63 in the 3rd round and eventually got to 13 under par, good for T22.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Russell Henley plugs along early, but has a great weekend to backdoor a high finish. At only 4 under par, a 65-64 weekend pushes Russell all the way to T12.
The Tour now heads to Illinois for the John Deere Classic – a tournament won by a couple of former ‘Dawgs listed above. Enjoy your week, and as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
