Michigan brought in 2027 three-star Brownsburg (Ind.) High defensive lineman Dami Sowunmi to campus last weekend. It was his first time in Ann Arbor, which undoubtedly exceeded expectations.
“My visit to Michigan was amazing,” Sowunmi told Maize n Brew. “The experience was great, especially getting to see the new coaching staff and getting to grow my relationship with the new DL coach.”
The itinerary for the Saturday trip included the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder watching practice and getting to know coaches
Larry Black and David Denham.
“After evaluating practice, I see myself playing any position on the line whether it’s the 3-tech or the 5,” Sowunmi said. “The Michigan D-line is definitely battled tested and dominant. Their ability to create and close space on the O-line and cause havoc on the line is insane.
“I have a strong and healthy relationship with both of the coaches and it’s getting better every day. My thoughts on them as coaches is that I think they are some of the best coaches in the country and they are coaches who really care deeply about their players.”
Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham also made sure Souwnmi was felt at home.
“I think that coach Whittingham is an amazing coach for Michigan,” Sowunmi said. “What he was able to do at Utah and now bring it over to Michigan, I believe he is going to change the program for the better.”
Two official visits have been set by Sowunmi to Cincinnati and Missouri. He’s going to Columbia the weekend of June 5 and then returning to see the Bearcats the weekend of June 19. The Wolverines also did what was necessary a few days ago for him to work towards locking in an official visit.
“I plan to come back for an OV,” Sowunmi said. “Me and the staff are working to find a day when I can come in for the OV, and on the OV, I’m looking for how it feels to be a athlete at Michigan on a daily basis.
“I feel really strong about Michigan. They are definitely at the top of my list and will be a top option for my commitment day.”
