Friday night was a fun one for the Kentucky Wildcats, who stormed past Valparaiso to a 107-59 win, highlighted by 11/28 shooting from 3-point range. It marked the sixth time the Cats have topped 100 points
in the Mark Pope era.
Kentucky did so without the services of sophomore forward Trent Noah, who was easily the team’s best 3-point shooter throughout summer works. Noah sprained his ankle in Tuesday’s win vs. Nicholls and was held out against Valparaiso.
After Friday’s game, Pope gave a brief update on Noah’s status, suggesting he’ll be back in the near future.
“If I would have let him (Noah), he would’ve rolled out there tonight,” Pope said of Noah. “He’s been working incredibly hard. He’ll be back soon.”
Kentucky hasn’t really seen what Noah is capable of yet this season. He was 4/11 (3/8 from deep that included a banked-in 3) in Kentucky’s two exhibition games, then went 0/2 vs. Nicholls before exiting with an injury.
At worst, Noah should be capable of taking the Ansley Almonor role for this year’s Kentucky team, and that role made a big difference in several big wins last season.
Let’s hope we get to see that in Tuesday’s monster matchup with the Louisville Cardinals.
