The Dodgers trounced their way to the pennant last night, led by Shohei Ohtani showing why he is the greatest player to ever play this game. The Brewers and their fun loving brand of baseball didn’t have
an answer for anything the Dodgers threw at them, looking feeble, overmatched and not allowed on the same field as Los Angeles. It was never going to be close, but the beat down the Dodgers’ pitching staff put on the Brewers’ offense was somewhat embarrassing.
So how do you feel about the Phillies now?
Increasingly, it looks as though the World Series title will reside once again in Chavez Ravine. Maybe one of the Blue Jays or Mariners can pick up a game or two next week, but the march looks like it will continue unabated.
Yet the Phillies were there with them. A bad pitch by Matt Strahm being a few inches more inside, a thrown ball by Trea Turner to the right side of home plate, a few more hits from the top of the team’s lineup and maybe it’s the Phillies heading to the World Series. It’s why the team’s shortcomings aren’t as glaring this time around. They need to make changes, yes, but maybe the coming philosophy about their roster and its ability to win are correct.
We’ll never know.
