Julian Nagelsmann has decided to delay the announcement of Germany’s World Cup squad. The squad was initially set to be revealed on May 12, but will now be announced on May 21.
Per the report from @iMiaSanMia, he reasoning behind the decision is fairly straightforward. Nagelsmann wants to wait for the final Bundesliga matchday before making his final calls. That gives him one last opportunity to assess players in competitive conditions before locking in the squad.
This could be important, especially
for those on the fringes. A strong performance on the final matchday might still influence selection, while a poor one could just as easily work against a player. Nagelsmann has already shown that he values form and current performances, so delaying the announcement aligns with that approach. Rather than deciding early, he is keeping his options open for as long as possible.
At the same time, it also suggests that not all spots in the squad are fully decided yet. If everything was already clear, there would be little reason to wait.
In any case, the new date is set. And with one final round of Bundesliga games still to be played, players now have a bit more time to make their case before the final squad is confirmed.
