At 33, Harry Kane remains in top form. Bayern Munich’s top earner outscored everyone else in the 2025/26 season, he is one of the frontrunners to win the Ballon d’Or and yeah, he is still playing pretty well. Bayern are therefore quite determined to keep him, to the extent of breaking their own contract rules.
And, according to Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), they are also willing to keep him on the same high wages:
Harry Kane will continue to earn around €25m gross per year with
the new deal. The Englishman is expected to sign until 2029.
Of course, one cannot expect a guy who played the kind of 2025/26 season Kane did to take a pay cut. Nevertheless, this means the England captain will sign a fat three-year contract worth around €75 million across its runtime, which will take him to the age of 36. No matter how well Kane is performing at the moment, physical decline can set in at any time. That is why Bayern normally eschews multi-year extensions for older players. If Kane were to start declining a year into the contract, he would be more or less impossible to move on at those high wages. This deal carries a good deal of risk.
Now it does seem like a deal well worth the risk, considering how well Kane is doing at the moment and how little he relies on his speed. But physical decline can see his stamina (and subsequently his suitability in head coach Vincent Kompany’s system) drop or make his shooting technique that little bit harder to get right on a consistent basis. The deal is certainly worth making, but it is worth keeping an eye out for any physical decline.
