With the Pittsburgh Steelers season officially beginning in two days time, their window to get a deal done with star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is rapidly shrinking.
The Steelers don’t negotiate contracts during the season – something that won’t change with Porter. The former second-round pick spoke with the media on Friday, and was very honest when asked if he was optimistic about a contact extension getting done.
“No, not really,” Porter said via Nick Farabaugh. “I mean, at this point… the clock’s
ticking. So it is what it is at this point. We’re gonna be prepared regardless of the situation and we’re gonna play ball.”
The Steelers aren’t strangers to taking things down to the wire in terms of contracts. Last season, they came to terms with Cam Heyward on a reworked contract on September 6. If they want to get something done with Porter, it will have to come together very quickly.
