Saturday night’s blowout of Villanova
wasn’t enough to cancel out St. John’s’ putrid defeat to UConn during the week in the eyes of the AP poll voters.The Red Storm fell three spots to No. 18 in the final regular season AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll. They also fell two spots to No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
St. John’s was leapfrogged by No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 16 Alabama, and No. 17 North Carolina
in this week’s poll after those three teams enjoyed undefeated weeks.
UConn advanced two spots to No. 4 following its 72-40 romp of the Red Storm last Wednesday. Villanova continued to lose ground among teams receiving votes, dropping to four points accrued after getting trounced by St. John’s.
The 18th-ranked Red Storm will take on the Georgetown Hoyas (13-16, 5-13 Big East) on Tuesday, March 3, at Madison Square Garden in their Senior Night game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game can be streamed on Peacock.
