Bayern Munich faced FC Augsburg away, and what ensued was a match that was tough to watch. Poor judgment and several mistakes from the Rekordmeister, along with four shocking offsides, made it certainly not a night to remember for Bayern.
A controversial decision that left many angry was the referee’s choice to disallow a goal scored from a set piece by Luis Díaz. After multiple haphazard passes and a game of pinball in the box, the ball somehow made it into the back of the net off Díaz’s efforts.
However, the referee subsequently called for VAR and ruled the goal offside in its build-up. This decision came as a shock and took away the goal that had brought them level with Augsburg.
After the game, manager Vincent Kompany was asked to provide his two cents on the situation. He curtly responded, saying the situation needn’t be complicated and that he had accepted the decision, per @iMiaSanMia.
“Offside is offside. We don’t need to complicate everything more than it already is. Yes, in that moment I didn’t have the feeling that the situations were linked to each other,” he explained. “It was a day where everything was decided by details and millimeters.”
Furthermore, Kompany did not shy away from Bayern’s own mistakes that led to the inevitable result. “We also have ourselves to blame in some situations,” he said.
“It was a nice game for the spectators. Our fans celebrated 6 times, but only two counted. It was an emotional game,” he said, referring to the offsides that had denied Bayern four goals.
Bayern continues to struggle against Augsburg as always, only this time with a bit more drama, and Kompany seems to agree with that sentiment.
